It’s the toughest job in America, and has the most pressure and responsibility attached to it…it’s parenting.

We at YBA are always looking for ways to give parents an edge to their kids with our after school programs, we figured it would be good to help the parents out too. Communication between parents and kids is always a challenge, and now in the techno-communication age, it has become even more challenging. We at Young Broadcasters of America will be reaching out to some of the area’s experts in parenting, child behavior, and teen issues.

Mostly we want to hear from the kids themselves, and will be encouraging them to speak up about some of the issues they have with their parents. We will protect the identification of these young people if they so desire, but encourage open communication because we all recognize this is not an easy thing to talk about.

Watch the interview on our YouTube channel, YBATV.

Summer Camp at YBA, Week Four
What a great week we had, and I am pretty sure the kids did too. Actually, I know they did and here’s why; when I asked a couple of them to rate this week on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the lowest, the responses were off the charts! One person said, “1,000,000″ and another said, “a trillion”. See, real stats to prove it. OK, need more proof, how about some pictures?

They do say pictures don’t lie and say a 1,000 words.

See, pictures don’t lie. The week was full of a lot of learning and fun. The final live web-show had everything from news, weather, entertainment, and animals. The group even had a live shot from outside the studio. The perfect ending came when Jimmy Young and Jimmy Myers talked about their views of the week .

I have been in the YBA program for just over a year now, and so I have enough time in the program to have a well-justified opinion on how good or bad Young Broadcasters of America is.

I think that YBA is great way for kids, like me, to learn how to become a sportscaster or a broadcaster. You’re taught how to speak in front of the camera or , if you want, how to work behind the camera. You learn how to do commentaries, do play-by-play, read off a teleprompter, and much more.

The first time I was at YBA, I didn’t know what to expect, but quickly learned that YBA is a fun and exciting way to learn how to broadcast. Even if you don’t want to become a broadcaster, learning how to speak in front of a camera teaches kids to look into peoples’ eyes when talking, annunciation, and more.

YBA uses a 4-level program to help kids excel in broadcasting. So, in all, I think YBA is a great and fun way to learn broadcasting.

It all starts with a dream, a vague puff of inspiration, an idea, a thought. If Iwas given my own television show…. what would it be? I walk into young broadcasters, down the stairs into the basement room. Thats when the dream started, it started with my trip down those stairs, I entered a world where dreams came true. Young Broadcasters of America has a studio, a magical place where your imagination runs like a bull in a china shop…. a china shop of dreams. When I stood in front of that camera for the first time, I let my mind do the talking and let my ideas flow. Flow through the magic of YBA. Young Broadcasters lets you do what you want to do, be who you want to be, say what you want to say, dream what you want to dream. If you want to get the skills to be in front or behind a camera, I highly recommend this amazing program.

By Jackson (July 12-16 YBA summer program participant)

I’ve waited so long for the first day of the first week of the Young Broadcasters of America 2010 summer session. Today was everything I thought and hoped it would be and oh so much more. Good or bad? Keep reading.

Eleven kids ranging in age from 11-17 (Boys and girls) start the day meeting each other and the one and only, Jimmy Young. If you have never experienced Jimmy in all his glory, working with kids, it’s a must see. Especially when juggling the ages and different media interests. It’s magical he’s magical. I’m still trying to figure out how he does it. He’s smiling and laughing and more importantly, the kids are smiling and laughing.

So, what did they do from 10am-4pm? First things first and that’s to get on camera. OK, now everyone’s been on camera at least once and read from the tele-prompter.

To shake it up and loosen everyone up it’s time to do a commercial. Not just any commercial, but a “Billy Mays” type of commercial. Remember him, the outrageous commercial pitch man? Here, kids are encouraged to reach outside their comfort zone. Need I tell you how much fun this was?

Future broadcasters of America are budding in Natick, MA and I’m pretty sure that a good time was had by all.

Stay tuned for more inside scoop at YBA.
